Would these be good shoes for hiking?

April 13th, 2010

I’m going hiking with some friends. We’ll be hiking in the woods, mostly along paths, for about 10 hours. I don’t know what type of shoes to get. I’ve been searching on the internet and have found that Columbia is a good brand. Would the following type of shoes be okay:
http://www.famousfootwear.com/product.asp?product_id=1013442&variant_id=51381

Any input would help. Thanks!
I’m concerned about my heels hurting because my heels have hurt from doing a lot of walking in the past.

Yes, those look like they’d be fine. You should walk around in them a lot before you go hiking so they can adapt to the shape of your foot. Be sure to wear good socks too

Where do they sell shoes that are relatively cheap?

April 7th, 2010

I saw a guy with some dickies shoes (sneakers) and i wanted to know where he got them. He also had a pair of Vans (not the slips ons) and a Columbia Titanium jacket. I checked some sites and I’m pretty sure he got the shoes for pretty cheap (under $40). Maybe he got the shoes and clothing from the same store? I also live in San Francisco.

Payless?

What ladies sport sandal would you recommend for a trip to Kuaui?

April 4th, 2010

I have some criteria so that hopefully I won’t have to bring more than one pair of shoes. I’m looking for sandals that are:
- rugged -can be used for beach, kayaking, or trails (so must have good traction)
- but are still ‘pretty’ enough to wear with a sundress for lazy days
- have a contoured footbed, with arch and the little ridge that goes under your toes
- is lightweight (for example, I compared a Merrel to a Columbia, and the soles on Columbia are a lot heavier.)
- must be the kind of sandal that has straps over your toes, and in back AND front of your ankle (like how most Tevas are.)

I used to wear Nike ACG sandals but they do not make nice ones anymore.

sketchers and crocs have some sandals that are super comfy! i’m not sure about how tough and dependable they are…i would assume they are pretty good i love my crocs! and my sister-in-law wears hers camping all the time. hope that helps

How much does it cost to ship large boxes/ items across canada?

April 1st, 2010

I am moving from Ontario to British Columbia for 6 months in Feb. I want to ship over large boxes of clothes/shoes/etc and one or two large tvs. How would I go about doing this? And how much would it cost?

Thanks!

You can ship them by rail, you can ship them by bus, you can send them by Canada Post or you can send them by FedEx. Wherever you are in Ontario, phone one of the transportation companies and find out what they offer. How much they charge depends on the weight and/or volume of the itemess to be shipped.

Which ‘JACKET’ ‘LOOKS BETTER’..? JACKET 1 or 2…?

March 29th, 2010

I have tried on both columbia jackets. They are both for winter. Originally, both jackets were $229 but are now reduced to $140. Columbia Jacket #1 seems to fit me better than the other jacket. I am thinking of getting the 1st jacket. I am thinking of using the jacket for winter. Maybe wear a sweater, jeans, and some snow boots with the jacket with a pair of black gloves. What do u think of both jackets? WHich looks better?

or

MENS COLUMBIA SPORTSWEAR JACKET #2

number one since u said it fits u better…why pay 140 on a jacket that doesn’t look too great in the first place?…logically number one is the wiser choice if u like it better and it looks better on u than choice 2. it fits the requirements for being warm as well.

What would the media say if protesting Notre Dame students attended their graduation but threw shoes @ Obama?

March 29th, 2010

So far the protestors are being very civil, totally different than what you’d have if the situation was reversed (e.g., George Bush or Dick Cheney getting an honorary degree from Columbia University).

They’re telegraphing how they will protest, arranging for police to be there to arrest them, or they are boycotting the event so that nothing bad happens to disrupt it. (Yeah, the right is pretty stupid when it comes to protesting.)

But I wonder if hundreds of protestors with balls actually attended their graduation and then, at various times during the president’s speech, took off their shoes and winged it up towards the podium. They’d definitely get arrested — which some were planning to do anyway in a more "civilized" manner — but they’d be actually protesting in a way that would make headlines.

You can be da** sure if it was Bush getting a degree from Columbia that there would have been shoes flying up there in the thousands!

I guess people on the right are just too civil.

But I think it would be funny to see the media double-standard in action, because suddenly such an act — which they praised in the case of the Iraqi press guy — would be deemed unacceptable and rude. Anyway, I think it would be funny to see.

Not that I’m encouraging that! (I’m not.)

And I also doubt it would happen anyway. Like I said, the right doesn’t know how to protest like the left does. They’re way too "civilized" to do something like that, and when it comes down to it, they DO have respect for the office of the president, no matter who occupies it.

My question is more about the media reaction, IF something like that was to happen.

Do you think the media would have the totally predictable response?

They would cry for their immediate deportation……………especially if they are American citizens……

P.S. they are Already arresting Protesters there who oppose his being there……….

you wont see any gay , or professional protesters being arrested…….
That’s the New standard….its called a hate crimes legislation….
Every thing that is termed Christian …are deemed haters…
while as true haters (gays ,abortion activists , professional activists hired by the ACLU etc etc ) will be allowed to do whatever they wish and the authorities will look the other way !!!

can a guy wear this jacket?

the purple one ?

A guy could probably pass that one off in a darker color maybe…
A neutral, less girly color like brown or black might work, depending on the guy’s style.

How do I make a pair of sandals stop stinking?

March 26th, 2010

I have a pair of Surft Tide Columbia sandals that always make my feet stink after wearing them. None of my other shoes do this and my feet don’t stink on their own so I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s the sandal. Any tips on what to clean them with or kill the germs with?

Give them a good wash i just hand wash with a bit of dawn
mine do the same thing

Now. Girls at my school dress like this all the time. c: It may look silly to some, but up here in the mountains by Spokane, it gets a little chilly and we sometimes resort to just sweats and hoodies. xD

I’ve heard of the ‘basketball shorts etc.’ for girls to wear, but what other lazy outfits are out there? O_o

haha i’m a pro at this stuff.

In like middle school, everyone wore those addidas flipflops with socks and like our school sweats! It was like all the rage. I did it too. Sometimes I did it cause I had swim practice too.

Right now I have a ‘lazy outfit’ on. I’m wearing Brown Terry Pants by Juicy Couture. You can get similar ones by Victorias Secret though for a bit cheaper. If its extra cold I put footless leggings underneath. With a Henley shirt on from Abercrombie (like the one in the Aeropostale Link you posted) with grey tank underneath its from H&M. Henleys are great for this comfy look cause you usually need to layer with them, so its warm & comfortable.
Normally I wear like a thin hoodie or a cardigan, which i get from H&M or JCrew. Right now I havent got shoes on but I normally would put like uggs or moccasins on. A lot of my friends also have those ugg slipper things. Sometimes I wear flats with this. It isn’t terribly cold out right now, so if i go get a cuppa coffee like i most likely will. I’ll throw on a thin grey hoodie, a scarf, some gloves and a jacket similar to the one in your first link mine isn’t columbia brand its Puma i believe (but i got it at the Addidas store) Columbia does have warm stuff though.
Honestly the key for me is layering. I get cold easily. But i hate to wear thick sweaters and stuff that I feel suffocates me. So I wear thin layers that I can take off easily or wear comfortably.
If I’m just around the house I tend to just throw a sweatshirt on.

I do try to look a little put together and not like I just rolled out of bed. I throw some jewlery on. Or make my hair look decent and makeup. Not over done or anything. Just casual.

All the links you put up are good. You have the right idea. I have similar things on right now and feel like i have the ‘lazy look’ downpact.
